Luncheon of the Boating Party by Renoir.
I met Brian for lunch on a break at a darling place called Firefly. We were a little overwhelmed by all the heavy food we'd been having so we had cob salads that were just as good and the atmosphere in this place was just so cute.
Brian went back to work then and I met up with a friend. We'd never met in person before that day. We're both parents of kids with panpit and she'd been my favorite mom since the beginning. She is funny and smart and very wise. Her son is 19 so she has been navigating the endocrine world for much longer. She used to work in DC for National Geographic. Now she is a writer for the USDA. She writes about scientists' research on natural resources. However, because of the government shutdown she wasn't working so we were able to meet up. She took my on my first metro ride (how clean!!) to the National Cathedral. Stunning. The size of that church is awe-inspiring.
This is where the Obama girls go to school. Chelsea Clinton also went to this school.
It is safe to say I was totally wiped out by the time I got back to the hotel. We had one more dinner planned at Bar Pilar. It was very good but it was a Tapas bar and those aren't my favorite. Great food but suddenly you've ordered several things and you're spent so much money on dinner.
